Introduction: Flat Film Coextrusion

The purpose of this site is to give a general understanding of the flat film coextrusion process. You will learn the terminology and concepts associated with the process and become familiar with the equipment used to manufacture coextruded flat films.

Flat film coextrusion is a subset of the extrusion process. First, the extrusion process will be explained, then the details of flat film coextrusion will be presented.

Extrusion is one of the many processes used to manufacture plastic parts. In the extrusion process, molten plastic is pushed through a die, which shapes it. Then the plastic is cooled, and either cut into sections or rolled up. Some examples of extruded parts include tubing, weed trimmer line, vinyl siding, sheet, and film. Extrusion is a continuous process capable of making parts of any length.
