Creepy Wigglers
Gelatin & White Glue
The Amazing Insects

Author: Gina Watkiss: Georgia Polymer Ambassador
Safety Considerations:
Don't eat the Wigglers you make. Other than that, no safety hazard.

Procedure:

Thank you to Ruth Kinsler for finding this recipe in "The Ultimate Book of Kid's Concoctions",

John Thomas, Kid Concoctions Co., March 1998, ISBN#0966108809

Look at these great insect books to find out more about real bugs:

  • Bright Beetle, Rick Chrustanski, Henry Holt & Company, April 2000ISBN#0805060588
  • Mr. Bumble -Kim Kennedy, Hyperion Books, May 1999, ISBN#0786813539
  • Bugs and Critters I have Known -Ann Heiskell Rickey, Old Canyon Press, December 1998, ISBN#0966783417
Creepy Wigglers will remind you of the old Creepy Crawlers and Thing Maker toys. While candy like your bugs can be bought in the store to eat, please DON"T eat the ones you make here: The ingredients are safe to handle, but not to eat. Instead, try the activities below and "do" some science.

Activities:
"Doing Science" is asking questions like what would happen if I changed how much of one of the ingredients I used? Would it still gel? Would it be as soft and rubbery? Do an "experiment" and find out!
See if you can figure this one out: Why does gelatin gel?
